P32M worth of computers seized in anti-piracy raid in Makati

MANILA, Philippines—Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation seized some P32 million worth of computers, allegedly containing unauthorized software, during raids on several establishments in Makati City recently.
Raided for alleged software piracy were Buruoj Architectural & Interior Design Services on Pililia St.; Rolando Mercado Design Associates/ RMDA Architects on Finlandia St.; and Moanima Inc. at Vicente Madrigal Bldg., Ayala Ave.
Bureau agents also swooped down on Gateway Network Solutions Inc. at Units 359 and 363 Milelong Bldg., Rufino cor. Amorsolo streets; Arlen P. De Guzman Designs Associates Co. on Capt. Apolinario St., Bangkal; and Mizuken Global Solutions on Valero St. Salcedo Village, all in Makati City.

NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division chief Dante Bonoan said the raids were prompted by complaints filed by Autodesk.
Armed with search warrants issued by Judges Marivic Balisi-Umali of Manila regional trial court Branch 20 and Alberico Umali of Makati regional trial court Branch 138, NBI operatives confiscated at least 58 computer sets allegedly loaded with unlicensed Autodesk software.
Charges for the violation of Republic Act 8293 (copyright infringement) were filed against owners of the companies, the NBI said.
